Collective Worship and Prayer

At St Thomas More, we provide regular opportunities for our children to engage with prayer and worship. As well as praying on a morning, before lunch, after lunch and at home time, our children experience prayer in the following ways:

Monday Morning Liturgical Prayer

Every Monday morning, Mr Hunt holds Liturgical Prayer which reflects on the Gospel from the previous day and gives the children a mission for the week.

Tuesday and Thursday Meditation

In class on Tuesday and Thursdays, the children take part in meditation in class. This gives them the opportunity to recite the maranatha and asking God to be with them throughout the day.

Children’s Liturgical Prayer on Wednesday

On Wednesdays, the children hold a Liturgical Prayer which they have planned themselves in small groups for the rest of their class. These could be based on a theme from which they have been learning about in RE or be focussed on a theme of their choosing. We use the Let Us Prayer 2Gether resources to help children become more independent in their planning of Liturgical Prayer as they move through the school.

Family Friday Liturgical Prayer

Every Friday, Mr Hunt or a whole class lead us for our Family Friday Liturgical Prayer. Parents, family members and members of our parish are all welcomed to join us for this which consists of a Liturgical Prayer based on a theme. This is followed by us celebrating our children’s achievements throughout the week.
