Curriculum Intent Statement

MFL Curriculum Statement

At St Thomas More, our language of focus is French.

We have adopted the Language Angels scheme of work which is a carefully planned sequence of lessons prepared by a team of foreign language teaching specialists.

The purpose behind this is to ensure that our children and teachers have access to a range of high quality resources to develop our pupils’ listening, speaking, reading and writing of the French language and so they also have a firm understanding of French grammar.

French in EYFS and KS1

Although there is no statutory requirement from the National Curriculum to teach a foreign language in EYFS and Key Stage One, our teachers ensure that children begin their journey of the French Language by teaching the basics of French through songs and games.

French in KS2

Please find below the documents which show how French is taught in our school in Key Stage Two.
